Meet guacamole’s distant cousin: ackee smash. It is easy to make, versatile and can be had warm or cold. Great for dipping chips, putting on a salad or in a wrap and of course absolutely banging on an Ackee Smash Burger 😉
The add-ins given for this recipe are just a suggestion, I was working on the burger and wanted to layer a certain flavour profile throughout. Feel free to mix it up according your preference.
A smash with pesto swirled in would be amazing 😍😍😍 on an eggplant burger?! I’m salivating just thinking about that!
What are some of your favorite flavour combinations that you would put in an ackee smash? Let me know in the comments section below along with any other thoughts or questions you have.

Ackee Smash
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups Parboiled/Canned Ackee
- 1 to 3 tsps Olive oil
Add-ins:
- 1 tbsp Red onion diced
- Juice of half lemon/lime
- 1 small Jalepeno diced
- 1/2 Red bell pepper diced (about 1/4 cup)
- 1 tbsp Cilantro finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp Ground cumin
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Optional first step: I like to cut some of the intensity of the onions by putting them into the mixing bowl first with the lemon juice. Let it hang out while chopping up everything else.
- Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl, mix and smash well to combine.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to your tastes
- Enjoy!
