Ackees are a must have for the vegan pantry, here’s a round up of sauces, dips and spreads you can make with it. All easy and nut free!
Did you know that ackees have been found to be rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium?; That they contain all the essential amino acids (with arginine being the predominant one)?; Or that they are reported to be rich in linoleic, oleic, palmitic and stearic fatty acids (which have been shown to reduce risk of coronary heart disease when included in a balanced, healthy diet)? [1]
That’s obviously wonderful to know! But for me, I love that they’re delicious and versatile! With their natural creamy texture and their tendency towards mild nuttiness in flavour ackees are perfect for incorporating into sauces, dips and spreads.
