Ackee Smash

Meet guacamole’s distant cousin: ackee smash. It is easy to make, versatile and can be had warm or cold. Great for dipping chips, putting on a salad or in a wrap and of course absolutely banging on an Ackee Smash Burger 😉

The add-ins given for this recipe are just a suggestion, I was working on the Ackee Smash Burger and wanted to layer a certain flavour profile throughout, so feel free to mix it up according your preference. A pesto-ackee smash would be amazing 😍😍😍 on an eggplant burger?! I’m salivating just thinking about that!

Servings 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Parboiled/Canned Ackee
  • 1 to 3 tsps Olive oil

Add-ins:

  • 1 tbsp Red onion diced
  • Juice of half lemon/lime
  • 1 small Jalepeno diced
  • 1/2 Red bell pepper diced (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 tbsp Cilantro finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Ground cumin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Optional first step: I like to cut some of the intensity of the onions by putting them into the mixing bowl first with the lemon juice. Let it hang out while chopping up everything else.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl, mix and smash well to combine.
  3. Adjust salt and pepper according to your tastes
  4. Enjoy!
